Bucharest, RomaniaJoin us for the Bioenergy Delegation to Romania
1-4 March 2027 | Bucharest, Romania
Romania is emerging as one of the most promising new bioenergy markets in Europe. New legislation for biogas and biomethane, ambitious decarbonisation targets, and a planned 5% biomethane share in the national gas grid by 2030 are creating attractive opportunities for Danish companies across the bioenergy value chain.
In cooperation with the Danish Embassy in Bucharest, Danish Energy Export invites Danish companies to join a four-day business delegation focused on biogas and biomethane opportunities in Romania.
The delegation will provide first-hand market insights, direct access to key decision-makers, project developers, utilities, regulators, and potential business partners, as well as a unique opportunity to position Danish solutions early in a rapidly developing market.
Why Romania?
Romania has significant untapped biogas and biomethane potential based on agricultural residues, livestock manure, food waste, and organic waste streams. While the market is still at an early stage, recent regulatory developments are accelerating investment activity and creating a favourable environment for new projects.
Key market highlights include:
• Strong political focus on renewable energy and decarbonisation.
• Government target of 5% biomethane injection into the natural gas grid by 2030.
• Large agricultural sector with substantial feedstock availability.
• Growing interest from project developers, investors, and energy companies.
• EU-backed support mechanisms and funding opportunities.
• Limited domestic experience creating opportunities for proven Danish technologies and know-how.
Romania currently has only limited biomethane deployment but possesses one of the largest long-term biomethane potentials in Central and Eastern Europe. This creates a unique window of opportunity for Danish suppliers, technology providers, project developers, consultants, and investors.
Why Participate?

• Gain up-to-date market intelligence and regulatory insights.
• Meet key Romanian ministries, authorities, and market stakeholders.
• Engage directly with project developers and potential customers.
• Explore partnership opportunities with Romanian companies.
• Visit a relevant biogas or biomethane project site.
• Strengthen their network through both official meetings and Danish delegation activities.
• Position their company early in a market expected to experience significant growth during the coming years.

About the Market
Romania's energy transition is gaining momentum. Despite significant renewable resources, fossil fuels still represent a major share of the country's energy mix. The government is actively pursuing decarbonisation measures, while biomethane is increasingly recognised as a key contributor to energy security, climate goals, and rural development.
The combination of substantial feedstock resources, EU funding opportunities, and new regulatory frameworks makes Romania an increasingly attractive market for Danish bioenergy companies seeking long-term growth opportunities in Eastern Europe.
